  • Covering 690 miles of shoreline (39,000 acres) and over 100 small islands, Lake Lanier is the perfect place for fishing, boating, swimming, camping and picnicking.

Lake Lanier is well known as a productive fishing lake.  The lake has approximately 39,000 surface acres at its full level.  There are trees left standing in lower portions of the lake as well as brush piles, drop-offs, submerged humps and rock outcroppings.  The Corps of Engineers, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources actively manages fish habitats on Lake Lanier.  Each year volunteers help build and maintain fish attractors around the lake.

Lake Lanier is great for boating - - whether you are on a houseboat, fishing boat, personal watercraft, sailboat or canoe!  Boaters can launch from any of 76 boat ramps around Lake Lanier's shoreline.  (User fees are charged for launching at most boat ramps.)  Most ramps are open year-round.  Some ramps may be closed when the water levels are low.

There are also 10 marinas that offer fuel, boat storage, repair services, food and supplies.

Lake Lanier offers some of the finest camping opportunities in the South.  The Corps of Engineers operates 8 campgrounds with 647 campsites.  565 campsites have water and electric hookups.  Most campsites are waterfront and all have picnic tables, grills and lantern poles.  All campgrounds have beach areas, boat ramps and restrooms. Most have showers and playgrounds.

Lake Lanier allows waterfowl hunting only in accordance with state and federal regulations.
